How To Have Texas-Themed Wedding Reception

Do you live in Texas? Maybe you used to live in that great state and you can't get it out of your blood. Now that you're getting married and you've decided to have a Texas-themed wedding reception, from the table decorations to a wedding catering service, here are some ideas on how to have a fun and unique reception.

The Food - Have your wedding reception catered. Think of how easy that will be. The great thing is that it will be more affordable than you think. And, the caterers have the experience to serve you and your guests professionally.

  • Think about having barbecue for your main course.
  • Corn of pretty much any kind would be perfect as an accompaniment.
  • Cole slaw, baked beans and even green beans would be great sides, too.
  • Don't forget the cornbread!
  • And, for dessert, think about serving peach or cobbler along with a slice of your traditional wedding cake.

The Decorations - Just think about what you would find in Texas and combine that with traditional wedding ideas.

  • For example, think about putting silk blue bonnets in pretty glass vases for your centerpieces.
  • Add a Texas feeling to the vases by tying them with strands of leather and pretty lace.
  • Another idea is to put little lassos in the center of your table, and add some pretty yellow roses in the middle of the lasso.
  • Tie leather and lace around each of the chairs at the dining tables, adding some faux bluebonnets to the design.
  • Place pictures of you and your groom in rustic wooden frames and place them in strategic places.

The Entertainment - You have so many choices that you may have trouble which to choose.

  • Think about hiring a trio of banjo players to serenade you and your guests.
  • Another idea is to add a bit of a Tex-Mex flavor by having a mariachi band perform during the reception.
  • Invite your friends to line dance by having an instructor lead the way.
  • Are you brave enough to ask your guests to do a Texas sing-along?
  • If so, think of getting the words to songs like The Yellow Rose Of Texas, Wichita Lineman, and Down In The West Texas Town Of El Paso.

A great take-home party favor would be to give each of your guests a cookie cutter in the shape of the state of Texas. Tie a little message to it that says something like, Thanks for  sharing our happiness, y'all!
